Infrared Thermogram Examples
A failure in this factory's 12,470 volt electrical service could have had very expensive results due to equipment damage and lost production time. This faulty connector was discovered and repaired at the first scheduled shutdown. The middle photograph and the image to the right were taken to verify the repair.
Although this disconnect switch feeding a bank of power correcting capacitors was not considered critical equipment, the fire that could have resulted from this fault would be considered catastrophic!  The temperature at the switch contacts was over 350F.  Notice that the contacts are still closed, yet the handle is in the open position. The contacts were welded closed! The temperature on the top of the enclosure measured over 150F.
The defective terminal for the main 24 VDC power in this control cabinet feeding a large food manufacturing process could eventually result in serious process control issues.  This anomaly was discovered and easily repaired without loss of product or production time.
